C. Cassis

375ml - $75 (3-pack)

Tasting notes: A beautiful ruby color with bright raspberry aromas and subtle hints of spice. The palate is driven by dark fruit, with an earthy undertone and a refreshing herbal note. The finish is tart and bright.

balance: Sweetened only with honey and containing half the sugar of most liqueurS Many ingredients offer health benefits: blackcurrants provide 3x the daily value of vitamin C, green cardamom aids digestion, citrus rind boosts immunity, and lemon verbena relieves stress.

how TO use? The Aperitif is ideal for a refreshing spritz with soda water or sparkling wine. But it doesn’t stop there – just half an ounce in a margarita or gin martini elevates even the simplest cocktails. It’s versatile and fun to experiment with, treat it like a RED vermouth.

history: Creme de cassis was first produced in 1841 in Burgundy, France, and quickly gained popularity in the US, where distillers grew their own blackcurrants. However, the US banned the plant in the early 20th century due to its role in spreading a fungus that threatened the logging industry. While cassis continued to be imported, it faded from memory until 1966, when the federal ban was lifted. In 2003, a NY botanist, Greg Quinn, helped lift the ban in New York, and C. Cassis now sources much of its fruit from him.

What are people saying?

  • [C. Cassis] won a permanent spot on my bar cart for taste and versatility, too. At 16% ABV, it’s perfect for sipping straight over ice or spiking a Tuesday night glass of seltzer.

    Aliza Abarbanel,

  • If you’re looking for a modern, American twist on créme de cassis, we recommend trying C. Cassis, a silky, light purple-hued liqueur inspired by New York state’s abundance of blackcurrants

    Oset Babür-Winter, Food & Wine

  • [C. Cassis] is less syrupy than the French version and is sweetened with honey, and infused with cardamom, bay leaf, lemon verbena and citrus rind. It’s wonderful with gin.
